A market share is the percent of total sales in an industry generated by a specific company. It’s calculated by factoring in the company’s sales over a particular period, dividing it by the industry’s total sales over the same time frame, and multiplying it by 100. Here’s how it’s expressed in a formula:

                                (Brand’s sales / Industry’s sales) * 100 = Market share

The higher the market share, the more sales a company has made in their industry. A company can gain market share through different marketing strategies, including lowering prices to attract more customers, increasing the quality of goods and services, and generating effective advertising campaigns.

A hero image (sometimes referred to as a hero header) is a large banner image at the top of the website. It acts as an introduction to both the website and the company.

When adding a hero image, use high-quality images and make them pleasing to the eye without being distracting by using appropriately sized text and an appealing color contrast. Ensure that the image isn’t too large, because if the website takes too long to load, it can reduce website traffic by 20%.

A conversion percentage is the proportion of users taking action on a website. It’s expressed as a percentage and accounts for the total number of users who made a purchase divided by the total number of website visits, multiplied by 100. Here’s how:

(Total number of consumers / Total number of website visits) * 100 = Conversion percentage

For example, if 100,000 recipients visit a website in one month and 2,000 buy a product or service, the conversion percentage will be 2%.

(2,000 / 100,000) * 100 = 2%

While the average conversion percentage differs by year and country, companies often optimize them for maximum turnover through a homepage, a pricing page, and mainly, a blog.

A search engine is software that enables users to access information about search queries. It works when a user enters a keyword (or keywords) in the search bar. This keyword helps the search engine provide relevant results about the topic, making it easier for the user to find the desired piece of information.

Traditional search engines allow users to look for anything for free and earn via paid brand advertisements, displayed at the top of the search engine result pages (SERPs). Technological advancements have allowed companies to develop private search engines that let users find information without recording their search history.

A preference center is a page on a website that provides recipients options to select what type and frequency of notifications and messages they wish to receive from a brand. Some companies also add links to their preference centers in the email’s footer to make it easily accessible for subscribers. These selected notifications enable recipients to avoid a constant stream of spam emails.

Brands using preference centers mitigate the risk of getting blocklisted as subscribers receive only important emails, creating a less intrusive experience for consumers. These centers also reduce the unsubscribe rate, as users get to choose as per their preferences.

Lead scoring is the practice of determining the value of leads or potential customers by assessing behaviors associated with their interest in certain products or services. It lets companies create more effective marketing campaigns by only targeting interested recipients, increasing overall revenue and conversions.

The practice involves scoring recipients on their actions. For example, brands usually assign five points to a consumer if they visit the blog page or 10 points if they visit a consumer or price page. These points can be taken away if they spend more time on pages like “Contact” or “Careers” because they’re likely visiting the website for another purpose.

There are three types of digital media, which are:

  • Owned media: This includes a brand’s investment in generating and promoting content on its own digital platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Paid media: This involves promoting the business by paying media to feature in ads displayed on search engines and social media channels.
